Assess Your Church’s Potential with MAPCHURCH
Benefit #1 Survey a representative
sampling of your members and find out what they are thinking! The results are aggregated
and anonymity is protected—member names and individual answers are not revealed
with the results. Your survey respondents are free to share their honest perspectives
safely, and yet in a way that will help their pastor and church leadership to have
a better picture of the church’s missional mindset.
Benefit #2 Cause your
members to consider the importance of your church being missional, and prompt them
to re-evaluate their own personal commitment to evangelism, outreach, church planting
and Acts 1:8 missions. Any opportunity to get your members thinking about their
involvement in these ministries can lead to positive Kingdom impact!
Benefit #3 These tools
will evaluate the aggregate results and suggest ways to move your church along the
missional continuum from less effective to more effective, less involved to more
involved. Church leadership will be presented with options, and if you choose, you
may select the solutions that best fit your church’s style and needs.
Benefit #4 Link directly
from MAPCHURCH.com to your
State Convention’s Acts 1:8 resource page. Find missions help quickly from your
Acts 1:8 Challenge partners by visiting ActsOne8.com.
What is MAPCHURCH?
MAPCHURCH
is a FREE resource provided by the North American Mission Board, Inc., in partnership
with the International Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC). However,
it is available for all churches to use if they find it helpful. The current version
of MAPCHURCH uses terminology typical of traditional
SBC churches, but future releases may incorporate at least seven paradigms of church
styles such as “progressive”, “purpose-driven”, and “emerging”; and terminology
more common in non-SBC churches. Churches select the terminology paradigm they prefer.
What is the MAPCHURCH
purpose?
MAPCHURCH
measures the perceptions that your church members have about their church and about
their own understanding and missional involvement. Although perceptions are reality
to those who hold them, they may not be actual reality.
MAPCHURCH
currently offers two assessment tools to help accomplish its purpose. You may choose
which tool is more appropriate for your church at this time.
- “ChurchMAP” features a 126-question
survey to which selected members will respond indicating their perceptions on a
variety of church topics. (See the “How Does It Work” tab for a complete list.)
- “MissionsMAP” features a
42-question survey to which members will respond indicating their perceptions on
local, state, national, and international missions.
What is the MAPCHURCH
process?
Registering the church and the selection of participants are the responsibilities
of the church’s MAPCHURCH
Administrator. That could be the pastor or a staff member, a secretary, a consultant,
or any other member or person designated by the church.
First the church’s MAPCHURCH
Administrator registers the church to obtain a User-Id and Password. This is accomplished
by clicking the New Church Account button. The system will send the User-Id and
Password within a couple of days. When logging on the first time, the MAPCHURCH Administrator
updates and confirms the church profile data. Next the MAPCHURCH Administrator
builds an e-mail message for the system to send to the participants, and inputs
the e-mail addresses of the participants. The participants may be the entire church
membership, or a random sample of members, or a specific group, etc. After the e-mail
list has been built and reviewed, the
MAPCHURCH Administrator tells the
system to “Begin” the survey and the system automatically sends out the e-mails.
When participants receive the e-mail message from MAPCHURCH.com, they click the link imbedded in the
e-mail. That launches the survey web app on their browser, and they follow the instructions
and complete the survey. Participants may select either English, Spanish, or Korean
languages for their survey questions. The
MAPCHURCH Administrator can also
print paper versions of the survey for those who do not have e-mail addresses or
who do not use a computer, and then the
MAPCHURCH Administrator can enter
those surveys for the participants. Once the
MAPCHURCH Administrator tells the
system to begin the survey, participants have two weeks to complete it.
While the survey period is in progress, the
MAPCHURCH Administrator may follow
the progress by logging in and reviewing the “dashboard”. The dashboard shows how
many have completed the survey and how much time is remaining. The dashboard also
displays a generic User-Id and generic Password that can be given to participants
who have access to the Internet but don’t have their own e-mail account.
After
tabulating the responses of your church members who were selected to participate
in ChurchMAP, MAPCHURCH
will generate reports giving your church’s leadership a snapshot of what your church
perceives about itself in the areas of discipleship, evangelism, fellowship, prayer,
worship, stewardship, theology, lay mobilization, missions and many others. Responses
to each question will also be correlated with the four authenticity measurements
of knowing, obeying, connecting and leading. If the MissionsMAP tool was used, a
snapshot of perceptions will be available in the Acts 1:8 Challenge purposes of
Prepare, Learn, Pray, Give, Go, Tell, Send, and Multiply; and in the missions target
areas of your Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria, and World.
Your church’s MAPCHURCH
Administrator may download electronic reports from
MAPCHURCH in PDF File format containing
complete summaries based on each authenticity factor and category. These reports
include graphs that will make it easy for the
MAPCHURCH Administrator and church
leaders to communicate the results to their church family. In addition churches
will also receive reports containing detailed (but aggregate) information about
how your survey participants responded to every question, topic and category.
Please note that MAPCHURCH
will keep all individual survey responses strictly confidential. Only the church’s
MAPCHURCH
Administrator will know the identities of the members who were selected to participate
in the surveys. Passwords will be confidential, so that participants will not see
each other’s survey responses. MAPCHURCH and its owners will not disclose
any individual identities. MAPCHURCH will never provide the names of
participants or produce reports attributable to individual identities. All results
will be rolled into aggregate summaries, with no possibility of discerning a specific
individual’s answers to the survey questions. Individual responses are not available
for viewing, thus protecting and guaranteeing the anonymity of the participants.
Finally, your church may select reports containing recommendations and important
resources that have been selected to assist with the particular needs of your church.
These suggested resources may include informational websites, books, training programs,
seminars and conferences, contact information for consultants with expertise in
your area of need, and coaching available from people in your local association
or state convention.
